Back home at ‘First Lady of Waikiki’

Tsuyoshi Sakata has returned to the Sheraton Moana Surfrider as general manager of the hotel he calls "the First Lady of Waikiki." He started his Sheraton career as assistant manager there in 1972.

"I spent 13 years in Japan and now I am back home," Sakata said. He talked of keeping the Moana at a high "fantasy" level for visitors by emphasizing beauty.

He has been vice president of the ITT Sheraton Asia Pacific Division and general manager for Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay; regional director of sales, Japan and Korean division, ITT Sheraton; general manager at the Sheraton Waiakea Village; resident manager at Sheraton Moana Surfrider; executive assistant manager/front office manager at the Royal Hawaiian; and executive assistant manager at Sheraton Kauai.

Sakata earned a bachelor's degree in travel industry management at the University of Hawaii.
