In reference to your Jan. 29 article, "State won't step into Perfect Title deed dispute," be advised that Mike Wallace of "60 Minutes" did a segment on a similar incident in Connecticut. An Indian tribe in that state went to court over disputed land, which it claimed was on its reservation. Approximately 650,000 acres of land was involved, resulting in the indefinite disqualification of clear title and ownership of existing properties. AGs office should worry
about Perfect Title fiascoI suggest that Randy Young of the state Attorney General's Office retract his naive, nonchalant remark that the Perfect Title situation is frivolous, in that all of the existing Connecticut property owners affected in the 650,000 acres' claim were unable to sell their properties due to the lack of title insurance.
It appears that in Hawaii's situation, sovereignty issues may further complicate matters.

(Via the Internet)I object to Paul Uyeda's Jan. 27 letter. Same-sex marriage is indeed a valid civil-rights issue. It is an age-old lesson based on tolerance and anti-discrimination. Our First Amendment was founded on this very ideal. Gay marriage certainly is
a civil-rights issueIf the pedophile is married, doesn't he or she still receive all of the benefits of marriage as the polygamist does? The same can be said for the person who practices bestiality. I won't even classify the person committing incest. This isn't even a fair argument. Incest is a crime by law! Homosexuality isn't!
The First Amendment was written to protect our civil rights. "Our" means you, me and everyone else in the U.S. who may be as similar or as different. This is what makes living in a democracy great.

With all of the recent stories about the antics of our men in the military - from hazings at the schools, discrimination against women, sex abuse, pinning wings into each others' chests - aren't we glad we didn't allow openly gay men to join and corrupt these fine young specimens? Military personnel should be
embarrassed by anticsCome on! Can anyone look at the videos of this Marine hazing and not shudder to think that these are the people with fingers on triggers controlling weapons of mass destruction? Gays are looking better and better all the time.

International medical research does not support Dr. Walter Young's Jan. 28 letter about the dangers of smoking, which may be why foreigners continue to smoke in our restaurants! Medical profession twists data
on risks of smokingAn informed doctor would know that American research was grotesquely skewed to support the personal prejudices of a very powerful surgeon general.
Dr. Young earns good money promoting the dangers of smoking (and the dangers of natural sunlight!). If Americans knew smoking relieves stress, reduced respiratory infections, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, schizophrenia, ulcerative colitis, etc., patients might just smoke instead of coming to sit for hours in doctors' offices, inhaling every illness on the market and paying vast sums for large quantities of remedies which have side effects that require additional remedies.
Doctors have bills to pay, and the last thing they need is a healthy patient! How could they hope to pay their insurance premiums?
