WEDNESDAY

"Story ABCs": Honolulu Theatre for Youth invites children to discover new ways to share stories with friends, 3 p.m. in the Aina Haina Library. Free. Call 373-3888.

THURSDAY

Kaimuki Library: Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays through Feb. 27. Call 733-8422.

Waipahu Library: Story time at 10:30 a.m. Thursday for preschoolers, and 11 a.m. Saturday for older children. Registration is not required. Call 675-0358 for information.



SATURDAY

Art classes: The Academy Art Center offers Exploring Art for children in grades K-4, and Drawing & Painting for grades 5-12. Classes will be 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays, through April 19. Tuition is $100. Call 532-8741.

Incredible Insects: Go on a bug safari and make a craft to take home, 9 to 11 a.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center. For children ages 3 to 5. Costs $7. Reserve at 955-0100.

Whales & Dolphins: Adults team with kids ages 4 and 5 for stories, crafts and live-animal observations, 9 to 11 a.m. at Sea Life Park. Costs $15 per team. Call 259-6476.

Family Fishing Days: Catch and release tilapia at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. Bring bamboo poles with barbless hooks, bait, walking shoes, bug repellent, rain gear and a picnic. Parking is available at the Visitor Center, 45-680 Luluku Road in Kaneohe. Expression Session: Children ages 5 to 12 try mask-making with ceramic artist Kathy Lord, 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Contemporary Museum. Admission $10. Call 526-1322.



CONTINUING

"Na Mea Makamae" on display: Explore the "Treasures of Hawaii," rare objects as much as five centuries old, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at Bishop Museum through May 4. Learn the stories behind fossils, tiny fish, Kamehameha's feather cloak and rocks from the underwater volcano Loihi. Admission is $14.95 general, $11.95 youths, seniors and military. Call 847-3511.

Tropical plant nature walk: 10 a.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden. Free. Bring walking shoes, insect repellent and rain gear. Call 233-7323 for reservations.

Train rides: Enjoy a 90-minute ride through Ewa 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sundays with the Hawaiian Railway Society, 91-1001 Renton Road. Costs $8 general, $5 seniors and children. Call 681-5461.

Aina Haina Library: Winter Reading Program runs through March 1. Preschoolers through sixth-graders can read a book a week for weekly incentive prize.
