UH picked to finish fourth

For the third consecutive year, Fresno State is expected to win the Western Athletic Conference softball title, according to a poll of league coaches.

The Hawaii Wahine were picked to finish fourth behind Nevada-Las Vegas and Utah.

Fresno State received eight of the nine first-place votes with UNLV getting one.

UH received one second-place vote, four for third, two for fourth and one for fifth.



HOOPFEST GAME

The Great Aloha Hoopfest, a basketball game between NFL Superstars and Honolulu police officers, will be tonight at 7:30 at Blaisdell Arena.

During the evening, the Foundation for Athletes Helping Kids will present a check to the Hawaii Police Athletic Association for $60,000. The HPAA will be making donations to Special Olympics, the Hawaii Community Foundation and others along with presenting scholarships throughout the year.

Also, Athletes Helping Kids will host a free football clinic with the NFL Superstars tomorrow at Kapiolani Park from noon to 4 p.m. for youngsters age 9 to 17. Meet at the bandstand.



TUINEI HEADS BENEFIT

The Dallas Cowboys' Mark Tuinei and Daryl "Moose" Johnston will be at Kidsports in Windward Mall tomorrow to sign autographs to raise funds for Mellorrie Gander's open heart surgery.

Tuinei and Johnston will sign autographs from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and be available to answer questions until 10:50.

For a donation of $25, $50 or $100, guests will receive autographed pictures of Tuinei and Johnston framed and a limited edition painting by Apollo. Guests also will be able to spend an exclusive hour with the two pro stars.
