Jazz saxophonist Dave Koz returns to Hawaii for an under-the-stars concert Feb. 14 at the Waikiki Shell at 7:30 p.m.
Koz is well known for his regular Thursday night guest star appearances on the old Arsenio Hall talk show as well as solo sax recordings with Celine Dion, U2, Stevie Nicks, Vanessa Williams and Juio Iglesias. He also performed and co created the new theme to the ABC soap opera, General Hospital.
"Off the Beaten Path," his third and latest album features former Fleetwood Mac lead singer Stevie Nicks on "Let Me Count the Ways," guitarist Leo Kottke on "Awakenings," and a piece composed on Bali, "Remembrance."
Koz came out of nowhere after his self titled 1990 release made it onto the Billboard Contemporary Jazz charts and stayed there several weeks. He has more fire and intensity in his work than Kenny G, and sometimes sounds a bit like David Sanborn.
Koz generally sticks to the fusion production formula: background vocalists, synthesizers, and drum machines, and a minimum amount of solo space.
Reserved seats are $20 and $25; general admission lawn tickets are $15 in advance.

‘Stop the Press?’ airs on ‘Olelo
"Stop the Press?" will repeat at 7 p.m. tomorrow, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, 7 p.m. Feb. 10, 4 p.m. Feb. 14 and 11 a.m. Feb. 24.
