Waihee Valley hike: Reservations are required for this trip to a water-bearing rock face in Kahaluu, 9 a.m. Saturday. Three miles. Costs $2. Call Miles & Maureen Brubacher of the Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club at 261-7814. Participants may also hike up to Hamama Falls.

Kaena Point Natural Area Reserve: Hike with John Cummings and Adaline Kam to see Laysan albatross and humpback whales along the Waianae side, Sunday. Four miles, six hours. Costs $7. Call the Hawai'i Nature Center at 955-0100.

Get Rolling, Hawaii: In-line skating class for those who have the basic skills, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Feb. 11 and 18, Outdoor Activities Center, University of Hawaii-Manoa. Skates and protective gear provided. Costs $65. Call 956-6468 to register; the Wheel Thing at 48-SKATE (487-5283) for information.

The How Not To ... Crash Course for beginners runs 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays in February; costs $85. Skill Builder course for advanced skaters, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and 21, costs $55.

Beginner karate: Hawaii Shotokan Karate classes start in February in Manoa, Kaneohe, Kaimuki and Aiea. Family rates available. For schedule, call 988-7128.

Lokomaika'i '97: The Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate 10K Run/Walk for Aloha United Way starts at Kapiolani Park 7 a.m. Feb. 8. Entry fee $18 if postmarked by Feb. 1; race day, $22. Call 842-8461.

Bowling for Miracles: The bowl-a-thon raises funds for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Leeward Bowling Center. Bowlers can earn awards and even a trip to Disneyworld to attend the Children's Miracle Network Telethon. For a sponsor form, call 689-6777.

With Children's Miracle Network, donations stay local. Bowl-a-thons are organized across North America by IOF Foresters, a fraternal benefit society.

MS Walk: Four-mile fund-raiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Hawaii Chapter begins 7:30 a.m. March 9. Registration at the Aloha Tower Marketplace begins 6:30 a.m. Walkers circle Ala Moana Beach Park and return to the Tower. Call 531-4127 for a registration form.

Great Trans Ko'olau Trek: Prizes totaling $100,000 reward fast folks in the 10-mile foot race May 11 on the H-3 freeway. To sponsor the Trek, call Bozell Marketing at 955-4416. Ikebana classes: Lillian Koide teaches flower arrangement 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays at the Japanese Cultural Center. Tuition $30 per month plus supplies. Call 537-5765, evenings.

Honolulu Zoo: Zoo opens at 8 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. General admission $6; $2 with Yum Yum Tree senior card. First Wednesdays feature a botanical tour at 8:45 a.m. for $2 more. Third Wednesdays, tai chi practice begins 8 a.m. Call 971-7174.

Nature Conservancy hikes: Two guided hikes a month to Honouliuli Preserve, home to more than 45 rare native plants and animals. Donation. Call 537-4508.
