Sacred music: Performance of music by Salomone Rossi, a 17th-century Jewish composer, 8 p.m. Friday, Temple Emanu-El. Featuring the Kalani Renaissance Concert and the Festival Singers, in celebration of Jewish Music Shabbat. Call 595-7521.

"The Mirror of the New 2": Festival of contemporary music opens with a concert 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Bakken Auditorium, Mid-Pacific Institute. "Hawaii's Composers, Hawaii's Musicians" with Tresemble and soprano Leda Asher Yager features music by Neil McKay, E. Takeo Kudo, J. Mark Scearce and Harvey Sollberger. Tickets $7.50. Call 947-1975.

Composer Donald Erb speaks 2 p.m. Sunday at Barnes & Noble bookstore on "What do Henry Ford, Pope John XXIII and Elvis Presley have in common, Or the place of creativity in an age of sleaze."

Erb's music will be presented in a concert 8 p.m. Monday at the University of Hawaii's Orvis Auditorium. Contemporary music ensemble Kawana'ao joins trombonist James T. Decker and the Honolulu Brass. For tickets, call 956-8742.

"Jazz in the Garden": Jazz Hawaii brings live musicians for a set at the Honolulu Academy of Arts before that day's jazz film begins.

The Wayne deSilva Trio performs Saturday; the Deshannon Higa Quartet performs Feb. 7; and Azure McCall, Tennyson Stevens and friends perform Feb. 28. Receptions are at 6 p.m.; films start 7:30 p.m. Admission $15 (includes film). Call 532-8700.
