will be held the weekend of May 2-4

Just when you thought you had seen the concert of the year with the Gloved One earlier this month, here comes Grammy Award nominee singer-songwriter Gloria Estefan for a one-night performance at Aloha Stadium in May.

Sears for weeks has been running a television commercial about free trips to Hawaii to see Estefan perform though no date has been announced.

Sources said, however, that Estefan will perform at Aloha Stadium the weekend of May 2 to 4 with ticket prices not expected to exceed $55. About 25,000 tickets will be available.

Promoter Tom Moffatt, who put on the recent Michael Jackson concert at the stadium, confirmed that he traveled to Puerto Rico recently to see Estefan perform, but declined comment on a Honolulu concert.

More than any other pop group, Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine have brought Latin American - particularly Cuban - music into the mainstream. They originated out of Miami's Cuban community, and many of their songs were sung in Spanish.

The group's hits have included "Conga," "Bad Boy," "Words Get in the Way," "Anything For You," "1-2-3," and "Rhythm is Gonna Get You."

Estefan's Hawaii performance will be at the end of her Asia tour, sources said.

The Cuban-born performer has performed in Honolulu twice before. Her last performance was a sold-out concert in 1988 at the Waikiki Shell.
