Maeda new Castle
head football coach

Nelson Maeda has been named the varsity head football coach at Castle High School, principal Barbara Teruya announced yesterday.

Maeda replaces Pat Silva, who coached the Knights for three years and led them from the Blue Division to the White and then to the Red Division.

Maeda has coached at Kailua High School, St. Louis School and Kamehameha Schools.

Since 1984, he has been a teacher of social studies and special motivation at Castle and is currently chairman of the Comprehensive School Alienation Program.



SEA WARRIORS RALLY

Hawaii Pacific University scored five runs in the seventh inning and five in the eighth for a 10-4 win over Sonoma State (Calif.) in a nonconference baseball game at Keehi Lagoon Field yesterday.

Aaron Lum's two-run double and Mark Sylvester's two-run singles highlighted the seventh inning outburst.

Lum also hit a three-run homer to left in the eighth inning.

Shawn Nakamura (2-1) pitched three innings of two-hit relief for the victory.

HPU improved to 5-3.



GEORGI, BALLENDORF WIN

Michael Georgi won the Pearl Harbor Bike Path 10-kilometer run yesterday with a time of 34 minutes, 44 seconds.

Chris Crawford was second in 35:18 and Jonathon Lyau finished third in 35:32.

Heidi Ballendorf won the women's division in 39:58.

Ann Baginski was runner-up in 45:20 and Colleen Shibata placed third in 45:30.



LAU, TAFT TRIUMPH

Brad Lau and Elaine Taft won the men's and women's divisions, respectively, in the first of two Sam Martz Memorial walk races yesterday at the Kaiser High School track

Lau covered the five kilometers in 27 minutes, 43 seconds. Taft was timed in 30:33.

In the second race, Norm Wakerley topped the men in 36:20 and Erlinda Travers won the women's event in 35:37.
