Nelson Maeda has been named the varsity head football coach at Castle High School, principal Barbara Teruya announced yesterday. Maeda new Castle
head football coachMaeda replaces Pat Silva, who coached the Knights for three years and led them from the Blue Division to the White and then to the Red Division.
Maeda has coached at Kailua High School, St. Louis School and Kamehameha Schools.
Since 1984, he has been a teacher of social studies and special motivation at Castle and is currently chairman of the Comprehensive School Alienation Program.

Brad Lau and Elaine Taft won the men's and women's divisions, respectively, in the first of two Sam Martz Memorial walk races yesterday at the Kaiser High School track LAU, TAFT TRIUMPH
Lau covered the five kilometers in 27 minutes, 43 seconds. Taft was timed in 30:33.
In the second race, Norm Wakerley topped the men in 36:20 and Erlinda Travers won the women's event in 35:37.
