Performances have been added for Feb. 12 through 15 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.

GreenCycling Expo, a demonstration of the benefits of recycling backyard trimmings, takes place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden. On the green scene
City recycling specialist Suzanne Varady will conduct workshops along with Mark Takemoto from the University of Hawaii.
Tours will show examples of mulching and composting put to work and free mulch will be available to take home.

The Honolulu Academy of Arts will present a series of jazz films and performances in February. Jazz jams at Academy
On Saturday, the Wayne deSilva Trio will perform before the screening of "Jazz on a Summer's Day," a film about the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival, featuring Louis Armstrong, Chico Hamilton, Chuck Berry, Thelonius Monk, Mahalia Jackson and others.
Feb. 7, the Deshannon Higa Quartet will play before the movie, "Let's Get Lost," featuring trumpeter and singer Chet Baker.
Feb. 28, Azure McCall and Tennyson Stevens will share the stage, then Clint Eastwood's "Thelonius Monk: Straight No Chaser" will be screened.
The programs begin at 6 p.m. with a reception; films start at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15, $12 for members, and includes pupus and beverages at the receptions.

Halifu Osumare and the African American Ensemble will present "Middle Passage: The Beat of the African American Journey" at 8 p.m. Feb. 8 at Leeward Community College Theatre. Rhythms of Africa sound
The work tells the story of African people in the United States, celebrating the polyrhythms of African music and dances. It consists of dance, music and spoken text.

The Aichi Sumo Team will compete in an International Goodwill Sumo Tournament noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Heritage Ballroom of the Japanese Cultural Center. Get a leg up on sumo
The team, consisting of 12 sumotori, will also give demonstrations on sumo training, rules of sumo and sumo techniques.
