selling more Big Isle landThe company announced yesterday that it was selling 1,880 acres of ranch land in Mountain View. A sealed bidding is scheduled for April, with a suggested minimum bid of $3.95 million.
The company sold 3,260 Puna acres last year to Florida investor Frank Barnes, who paid a reported $5 million for land across from the Pohoiki boat ramp and on both sides of Highway 130.
The latest property for sale runs more than two miles along Highway 11, and includes more than 40 lots that range from less than an acre to 50 acres. Zoning is in place that allows the property to be divided into 20-acre lots in some areas, and five-acre lots in other areas. The land was used mostly for sugar cultivation until 1985, when Puna Sugar Co. closed. The property is now leased to two ranches.

slow in fourth quarterIts full-year profit of $3.5 billion for all of 1996 was topped only by the $3.7 billion it earned in 1994. Its revenue of $61.4 billion for the year was also an all-time high for the nation's third biggest automaker.
Chrysler's earnings decline for the last three months of 1996 reflected onetime charges, and the results without those special items exceeded analysts' expectations. Chrysler earned $1.12 a share in the October-December period in 1996. A year earlier, it earned $1 billion, or $1.35 a share after adjustment for a 2-for-1 stock split last July.
