Pretoria, South Africa - All-African crop science congress. Through Jan. 17.

Paris - Azerbaijani President Geidar Aliev visits. Through Jan. 15.

Strasbourg, France - European Parliament meets. Through Jan. 17.

London - Princess Diana begins five-day visit to Angola for Red Cross.

Washington - Supreme Court hears arguments.

Washington - Congress is in session.

Charlotte, N.C. - Sentencing hearing begins for serial killer Henry Louis Wallace, convicted of killing nine women. He could face either life in prison or a death sentence.

Salem, Ore. - Judicial Fitness Commission begins hearing sexual harassment charges against a state Supreme Court justice.

Columbus, Ohio - State motor vehicles board to discuss the status of its case against Cincinnati Reds baseball team owner Marge Schott, whom General Motors Corp. has accused of falsifying sales at her Chevrolet dealership using the names of team managers and others.

Tucson, Ariz. - Astronomers fire up furnace in preparation of making $12 million one-piece mirror for telescope project on Mount Graham.

Houston - Evidentiary hearing in appeal of Yolanda Saldivar, convicted of killing Tejano singer Selena.

Flemington, N.J. - Preliminary screening of potential jurors in trial of Jesse Timmendequas in the 1994 slaying of Megan Kanka, 7. Her death led to the passage of "Megan's Law."

Los Angeles - Officials of the nation's second-largest school district consider a proposal that calls for acknowledgement of ebonics as distinct language requiring specialized training for teachers.

Santa Monica, Calif. - Defense expected to rest by noon in O.J. Simpson trial. Three-day plaintiff rebuttal begins.

Los Angeles - Oft-delayed pandering retrial for Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.

TUESDAY, Jan. 14:

Duesseldorf, Germany - Retrial continues for former East German spymaster Markus Wolf on charges including bribery, kidnapping and coercion. Through Jan. 15.

Bonn, Germany - Russian politician Aleksander Lebed arrives. Gives speech on Jan. 15.

Washington - Supreme Court hears arguments.

Washington - Congress is in session.

Albany, N.Y. - Gov. George Pataki is expected to unveil his proposed budget for the state's 1997-98 fiscal year.

Houston - Swearing-in ceremony for new police chief.

Trenton, N.J. - Gov. Christie Whitman delivers her annual State of the State address.

Waupaca, Wis. - Court appearance for 18-year-old woman in connection with death of 2-year-old boy she was babysitting.

Rustburg, Va. - Cheerleader mom appeals misdemenaor conviction and $2 fine for shoving, punching and ripping wig off mother of another cheerleader.

Denver - U.S. District Judge Lewis Babcock has scheduled a hearing on a request to block implementation of Amendment 16, which changes how the State Land Board manages 3 million acres of school trust lands.

THURSDAY, Jan. 16:

Budapest, Hungary - French President Jacques Chirac begins two-day visit.

Washington - Deadline for special counsel to House Ethics Committee to present his report on charges against House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Denver - Seminar on high technology theft and how to guard against it. Speakers include law enforcement and FBI officials and white-collar crime experts.

Phoenix - Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct holds disciplinary hearing regarding Pima County judge convicted of felony counts involving hiding his gambling income.

Park City, Utah - Sundance Film Festival.

Blacksburg, Va. - Arraignment of two Virginia Tech football players charged with rape.

FRIDAY, Jan. 17:

Schwerin, Germany - Party of Democratic Socialism holds party congress. Through Jan. 19.

Bonn, Germany - NATO Secretary-General Javier Solana and Hans van den Broek address symposium on "Cooperation and Security as a European Duty."

Washington - Congress in session.

Los Angeles - Hearing in felony gun possession case against rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg.

Milwaukee - Sentencing continued for Vitek Supply Corp. of Dodge County which was convicted of smuggling drugs that were used in livestock feed for veal calves.

SATURDAY, Jan. 18:

Paris - Haute couture shows. Through Jan. 22.

Cairo, Egypt - Cairo international book fair opens, with 80 countries participating. Through Jan. 30.

Boulder, Colo. - The National Pie Championships will bring pie-makers from around the nation to pit their skills against one another. Through Jan. 19.

Albany, N.Y. - The state eliminates its 4 percent sales tax on most articles of clothing for a one-week experiment designed to spur retail clothing sales.

Salina, Kan. - KKK rally to protest the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

SUNDAY, Jan. 19:
