






Greg Meyer and Randy Mitchell earned spots in the United Airlines Hawaiian Open in the Aloha Section PGA qualifying yesterday at the Waialae Country Club. Meyer, Mitchell win

in Hawaiian OpenMeyer, who plays out of the Pearl Country Club, shot a 4-under-par 68 to top the 45-player field trying for the two Hawaiian Open spots. Mitchell, an assistant pro at Navy-Marine, carded a 70.
Meyer and Mitchell will join David Ishii, the Aloha Section stroke-play champion, in the PGA Tour event Feb. 13-16 at Waialae.
Joe Root, director of golf at Mauna Kea resort, shot a 71 and is the first alternate. Ron Kiaaina (Poipu Bay) and Dick McClean (Kapalua) finished with even-par 72s.
The Hawaii International X-treme Fighting Tournament returns to Blaisdell Arena Friday with the $30,000 Super Brawl III. X-TREME FIGHTS AT BLAISDELL
The main event features Frank Shamrock, currently ranked No. 1 in Japan, versus John "Machine" Lober, the IFC heavyweight champ. The co-main event pits Hawaii's Jay R. Palmer (15-0), the winner in both Super Brawl I and II, against Danny "Boy" Bennett, the ISKA light middleweight Muay Thai champ from Seattle.
Two four-man tournaments precede the main events. Pete Williams, the Super Brawl II heavyweight champ, defends his title against Waialua's Duke Kawika Pa'aaina, Johnnie Dixon Jr. of Mississippi and Seattle's Doug Murphy.
The under-198-pound tournament features Waipahu's Raynell Cooper, top-ranked cruiserweight Jason Nicholsen, Taro Obata from Japan and X-treme tournament veteran Pat Militich.
