Teens can now join other teens in the "fast lane" by signing up to run in the Teen Great Aloha Run beginning 7 a.m. Jan. 20. But you don't have to be a track star to sign up for the walking and running event, organized especially for those in 6th- through 12th-grade.

The 10K course leads from Aloha Tower to Kapiolani Park, and funds earned from pledges will go toward a group or team's project or goal, whether it is to help renovate a community youth center or purchase computer equipment for one's school.

In addition, awards will be given to the top three overall male and female runners, as well as the top three male and female runners in seven age groups. And after the run, there will be refreshments, plenty of entertainment, not to mention many opportunities to meet up with peers from other schools.

Applications are available from school physical education teachers. Registration takes place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ala Moana Center Education Booth at the mall level, near Sear's, Longs and Wet Seal.

There is a $20 registration fee. Make checks payable to: Hawaii Youth Services Network.

The run will help reinforce basic health and fitness habits that will benefit participants for life.

For more information, call the Great Aloha Run Office at 528-7388, or 521-TEEN (8336), ext. 0, weekdays from 4 to 7 p.m.
