NEW YORK - Morgan Stanley & Co. is reportedly facing a lawsuit in which two black employees seek $30 million over what they described a "vile, racist" joke circulated through the Wall Street firm's e-mail. Morgan Stanley
sued over racist e-mailThe employees, Yolanda Owens and Edward Hutton, reportedly said in the suit that when they complained, Morgan Stanley denied them promotion.
The suit also accused the firm of discriminating against minorities in hiring and promotions, according to accounts of the suit in today's Daily News and Wall Street Journal.
Morgan Stanley's lawyer, Stephen Feingold, said the e-mail originated outside the company. The lawsuit named seven white Morgan Stanley employees as distributors.

ST. LOUIS - Trans World Airlines has sent layoff notices to 378 flight attendants, many hired less than a year ago to handle increased flights. TWA furloughs 378 flight attendants
The airline announced it was furloughing 218 flight attendants at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, where it is reducing service today. It is laying off 160 flight attendants assigned to its domestic hub at Lambert Airport in St. Louis.
The layoffs, for flight attendants based in New York and St. Louis, take effect Jan. 31.
TWA spokesman John McDonald said that TWA probably will bring some attendants back this summer.
The layoffs were not unexpected for the airline's 5,400 cabin crew employees. The airline announced last month it would shrink its trans-Atlantic hub in New York and stop flying Boeing 747 jumbo jets as part of a cost-cutting plan.
