Training hotel workers to listen to guests

Kellie W.J. Chun is training employees at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Waikiki Hotel in how to anticipate guests' needs and resolve problems.

"We have the Sheraton guest satisfaction system for this," Chun said. "Our training programs are flexible for the individual."

Chun came from Smilecare Dental Group, in Irvine, Calif. where she was director of training and development for three years. She also worked 5 1/2 years for Hawaii Dental Group, and five years as a speech pathologist in Idaho and Hawaii.

Chun earned a bachelor's degree in speech pathology and audiology from the University of Hawaii, and a master's in speech pathology from Idaho State University. This education helped Chun develop listening skills, she said.

The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel is owned by Kyo-ya Co. Ltd. and operated by ITT Sheraton Corp.
