City upgrades Web page
for user ease

Quietly, with little promotion, the city is building a major new site on the Web.

Take a few minutes to check out the new and improved site at http://www.oceanic.com/CCHNL/.

With a clean, straightforward design that includes both Mayor Jeremy Harris' crew and the Council, you can get a ready, understandable grasp of what the city does.

For instance, you can search the city laws because the city tossed in the Revised Charter of Honolulu in full text.

Just enter a key word or concept and you'll be able to quote ordinance and regulation like any Honolulu Hale insider.

The state has nothing close for either its rules and regulations or even state laws.

For a swift trip, try http://www.thebus.org, to ride the bus. You'll wish the city's mass transit system was as flashy.

Under Malcolm J. Tom, chief budget officer, there is a thorough discussion of the city's budget and finances, another item that the state lacks.

The whole city project is maintained by the Department of Data Systems, and is frequently updated.
