Your appointment with Dr. Katz starts today

Star-Bulletin staff

What do you do when your therapist is a bigger basket case than you? Well, if you're a Star-Bulletin comics page fan, you laugh.

Today, we're introducing on page C-4 of our print edition "Dr. Katz," a new strip based on the phobic and obsessive, if well-intentioned fortysomething shrink who does his best even though his appointment book is filled with people who would leave Ricki Lake and Howard Stern speechless.

Other recurrent characters include Ben, the doc's eternally adolescent 24-year-old son who suffers from delusions of grandeur and laziness, and Katz's secretary Laura, who's long on attitude and short on interpersonal skills.

Watchers of TV's Comedy Central may already be familiar with the good doctor, created by Jonathan Katz and Tom Snyder.

The animated series, "Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist" made its debut in 1995 and quickly won a devoted following, as well as Emmy and Cable Ace awards.
