THURSDAY

Waipahu Library: Story times in January begin 10:30 a.m. Thursdays for preschoolers, and 11 a.m. Saturdays for older children. Registration is not required. Call 675-0358 for information.

Zoo Lites: See life-size light sculptures of flamingos, lions and other animals at the Honolulu Zoo, 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday through Jan. 4. Admission is $3 adults, $1 children. Call 926-3191.



SATURDAY

Family Fishing Days: Catch and release tilapia at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 4 and 5. Admission is free. Bring bamboo poles with barbless hooks, bait, walking shoes, bug repellent, rain gear and a picnic. Parking is available at the Visitor Center, 45-680 Luluku Road in Kaneohe. "The Magic Horn": The Honolulu Symphony and the Magic Circle Mime Co. tell an ancient, magical tale of a horn stolen from its owner, 11 a.m. Jan. 4 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. The Ohana Concert, for children 4 and older, opens with an "Instrument Petting Zoo" at 10 a.m. Tickets are $12 and $15. Call 538-8863 or 545-4000.

Moki the Gecko: Meet the little Hawaiian lizard that stars in the children's books by Bruce Hale, 1 p.m. Jan. 4 at Kahala Mall's Center Stage. Moki made his debut in "Legend of the Laughing Gecko."



LOOKING AHEAD

Swimming lessons: Eight-week programs for children 9 months and older begin Jan. 6 at the Laniakea YWCA on Richards Street and Camp Kokokahi in Kaneohe. Pools are heated. Tuition for classes, Saturdays or Sundays, is $49 or $57. Call 538-7061 ext. 212. A second session starts March 3.

Drama for kids: Children can bring life to fantastic characters, starting Jan. 11. Honolulu Theatre for Youth will hold IMAGINE sessions at Kailua and Kilauea district parks, Saturdays through Feb. 22. Sessions are 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for grades K-2, and 3 to 4:30 p.m. for grades 3-6. Registration costs $75 for grades K-2, $95 grades 3-6. Call 839-9885. Enrollment deadline is Jan. 6.

Hula Bowl Bike Ride: Take a 20-, 30- or 50-kilometer ride to Aloha Stadium on Jan. 19 to raise funds for American Lung Association of Hawaii. Deadline to register is Jan. 8.

Entry fee of $25 includes a Hula Bowl game ticket and T-shirt; the funds go to programs to help Hawaii children with asthma. Riders who collect donations are eligible for incentive prizes. Entry form at the association office, bike shops or in Spoke-n-Words, the Hawaii Bicycling League publication. Call 537-5966 .

Art classes: The Academy Art Center offers Exploring Art for children in grades K-4, and Drawing & Painting for grades 5-12. Classes will be 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 1 through April 19. Tuition is $100. Call 532-8741.

Waikiki Aquarium spring: Brochures for classes, seaside and Keiki Time activities and study tours are available. Registration by mail is required. Call 923-9741.
