North has been active in retail projects since the mid-1970s, starting with the original leasing of Pearlridge Shopping Center. North more recently has focused on resort retail projects in Waikiki and on Maui, including Whalers Village Shopping Center in Kaanapali and Front Street in Lahaina.

He serves as the state director of operations for the International Council of Shopping Centers. He is also active in the Metropolitan Rotary Club, Retail Merchants of Hawaii and other groups.
