Masao Akasaki, 75, of Paauilo, Hawaii, a heavy equipment operator for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., died Monday in Hilo Hospital. Born in Kohala, he is survived by brothers George and Seiji; and sisters Tsuruko and Shizue Asato, Mitsuko Toyama and Tsuru Sakihama. Memorial service: 6 p.m. Saturday at Dodo Mortuary in Hilo, call after 5 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers.

Hoo Kin “Bobby” Chang, 76, of Honolulu, a Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard retiree and father of former state Sen. Anthony Chang, died Saturday at home. Born in Honolulu, he is also survived by wife Ethel; sons Anthony and Nathan; daughters Leburta Chock and Melissa Chang; and five grandchildren. Service: 6 p.m. Monday at Nuuanu Memorial Park Mortuary, call after 5 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers. Private inurnment.

Warren K.F. Chow, 79, of Honolulu, who retired after 35 years as assistant district director of U.S. Customs, died Monday in St. Francis Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he is survived by wife Thelma “Toby” P.; sons Leonard, Michael and Norman; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mass: 12:30 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church, call after 10 a.m. Burial: Diamond Head Memorial Park.

Walter Y.L. Chun, 77, of Honolulu, who retired after 40 years with the U.S. Department of Public Health, died Dec. 21 in Honolulu. Born in Honolulu, he is survived by wife Linda; son Walter; daughters Cynthia Chu, Natalie Wall, Mary McConnell and Sonya Kobayashi; sister Betty Cohen; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Louise A. DeMello, 84, of Honolulu, died Dec. 25 in Straub Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she is survived by brother John A.; and sisters Helen A. Tate and Alice R. DeMello. Dorothy M. DeLeon, 88, of Honolulu, died Dec. 22 in Hale Nani Nursing Center. Eva Marie Masaki, 79, of Honolulu, a retired housekeeper, died Dec. 24 at Kuakini Hospital. Tadashi Tamekazu, 86, of Kalaheo, Kauai, retired from the Kauai County Waterworks Department, died Sunday in Queen’s Hospital. Born in Eleele, Kauai, he is survived by wife Mitsue; sons James M., David Y. and Charles K.; daughters Nancy E. Pearson, Charlotte N. Parker and Janice K. Sakuda; sisters Mildred C.
