Uncorking California vintages

Ted Tobby comes from Marin, Calif. to manage the Sunset Grill at Restaurant Row as owners Dick and Monene Bradley add a wooden "wine-room" to the atmosphere.

"We're a San Francisco-style bistro with fresh ingredients and organically grown greens," Tobby said. "The wine room was finished this month. We have well over 200 labels, mostly from California."

He has 25 years in food service. For the past seven years, Tobby was general manager at Joe Lo Coco's Ristorante in Marin County. He owned his own restaurant, Nine Ross Common in Marin, for eight years. His restaurant career started in San Francisco at the Julius Castle restaurant.

Tobby also taught elementary school for eight years in San Francisco.

He earned a bachelor's degree in political science at the University of California at Berkeley. Tobby and his wife, Flora, have two children, Teddy and Amara.
