
That's the gospel according to Peg Williams, one of the first group of 11 students, all from Kauai, to graduate yesterday in the Interdisciplinary Master of Education program at the University of Hawaii.
They did their course work on Kauai over the past 2-1/2 years while also teaching full time.
UH College of Education faculty traveled to Kauai to teach courses on Friday evenings and Saturdays to allow the Neighbor Island teachers to earn master's degrees while still working. Another six students will complete the program in May, and a new group starts next summer on Maui.
The first group flew to Honolulu to take part in graduation ceremonies yesterday at the UH Special Events Arena.
Hoshijo, appointed to the commission last year by Gov. Ben Cayetano, will replace Linda Tseu, who is stepping down Jan. 15. Hoshijo was instrumental in helping to pass legislation establishing the commission in 1988, said panel Chairwoman Amy Agbayani.
He is co-founder of Na Loio No Na Kanaka, or Lawyers for the People of Hawaii, a nonprofit organization that provides legal services to the poor.
He also serves on the boards of the Native Hawaiian Legal Corp., the Inter-Agency Council on Immigrant Services, the Council on Language Policy and Planning and the Early School, and is chairman of the Hawaii Commission on Access to Justice.

The gunman fled with a cash bag from Domino's Pizza in Mililani, which the woman was depositing. The robbery was reported at 11:11 p.m.
The woman was not injured and police have no suspect.
