Lennon art on sale

The artwork of John Lennon will go on sale in Honolulu for three days - Dec. 27 through 29 - at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Serigraphs of art taken from Lennon's personal sketchbooks, his Lyrics Manuscripts portfolio, will be available, and rare black-and-white photos, original production cels from "Yellow Submarine," and an original drawing done by Lennon for Yoko in the late 1960s.

The artwork will be on display 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 27 and 28; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 29.

Barbie, Barbie, Barbie

The Barbie Club of Hawaii is sponsoring the a mini Barbie doll convention from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

The convention is the first such gathering in Hawaii, said the club president Connie Hollady.

Convention attendance is limited to 125 people, who will each receive as part of the $75 admission price a limited edition Polynesian Barbie doll. The convention will feature Barbie speakers, Barbie experts, Barbie games, a Barbie luncheon and Barbie products sales.

Reel in those fish

Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden is sponsoring Family Fishing Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 4 and 5 with the catch-and-release of tilapia.

Admission is free. Fishers should bring a bamboo pole, barbless hooks and bait. Walking shoes, insect repellant, rain gear and lunch are recommended.

Grit at The Groove

Just in time to spread a little Christmas cheer, Guttermouth, The Suicide Machines and The Line play at 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at The Groove on Nimitz Highway.

We have no info on The Line, but The Suicide Machines hails from Detroit, and is touring to support its debut album, "Destruction By Definition," big slabs of three-chord ska/punk.

Guttermouth's second album, "Teri Yakimoto," is just out, and contains the immortal lines, "Nothing I hate more than dirty, hairy chicks/The only things that like them are gnats, fleas and ticks/Always out to lunch, always so confused/I wonder if they've ever owned a pair of shoes?"

Ballet tours isles

The Infinity Dance Company will present "A Night of Romantic Ballet" on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island next month.

The performances will include the pas de deux from "Romeo and Juliet," "Sleeping Beauty" and "Le Corsaire."
