Classic tickets on sale

Ticket packages for the 33rd annual Rainbow Classic, Dec. 27-30, go on sale at 8 a.m. Monday at the Special Events Arena ticket office.

Tournament packages for the upper-level seats cost $48. Lower-level seat packages, if still available Monday, will cost $56.

Individual game tickets will go on sale Dec. 23 for $10 (upper level) each.

The classic field includes Georgia, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Washington State and the host Hawaii Rainbows.



DUARTE MISSES THE MONEY

At Las Vegas, Myron Duarte of Maui lasted the required eight seconds on Black Scorpion Skoal but finished out of the money in the sixth go-round of the bull riding competition at the $3.2 million National Finals Rodeo last night.

Duarte, who now lives in Peyton, Colo., still leads the overall world standings with winnings of $100,628.



SPRINGER DEFENDS TITLE

Ken Springer will defend his title as the 54-hole Callaway Hawaii State Open golf tournament begins tomorrow at the Big Islands' Hapuna Beach course.

Springer won last year's event at Makena North on Maui with a 54-hole score of 211.

Also entered this year are former champions Dick McClean, Chuck Davis and Dan Nishimura.



STRUGLINSKI HONORED BY WAC

University of Hawaii senior Peter Struglinski has been selected the Western Athletic Conference's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week.

Struglinski won the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events at the University of Washington's Husky Invitational last weekend to help the Rainbows to a third-place finish.

His times of 55.61 seconds in the 100 and 1

59.29 in the 200 are WAC season-bests.



AMATEUR BOXING CARD

USA Boxing, Hawaii Association will hold a 15-bout card Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. at the Waianae District Park Gym.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for ages 8 to 16 with children 7 and under free.

Heavyweight bouts feature Richard Garcia and Sifou Sua of Waianae going against Dick Suani (Palolo) and Bryson Jose (Kaneohe), respectively.
