Being able to buy her daughter that toy might be the best thing about winning the Football Fever Contest's $500 prize for Linda Perrin, a 44-year-old Pearl City woman.
Perrin scored a perfect 10 in this week's prognostication. In order to qualify for this week's random drawing, entries had to score 9-1 or better. That's because celebrity panelists Mike Fitzgerald of the Star-Bulletin and Leslie Wilcox of KHON-FOX2 news topped the panel with 9-1 records.
Perrin said she and her husband, Scott, have been filling out entries for the past eight weeks. She said they argue about some of the games but always make independent predictions.
"We argued about Florida and Florida State," she said. "I went against him on that. He wanted to go with favored Florida and he said to me, 'You're going to blow it.' "
Perrin flashed the grin of the cat who ate the canary.
"I won, he lost," she said.
"We also differed over the Oakland game and he lost. He was 8-2."
But Perrin said she'll be a gracious winner at home.
"His Christmas budget just got upped," she said.
The women's celebrity panel team continues to lead with a season record of 260 wins and 160 losses. The men's team is 259-161.
