Funding for folk arts: Applications for the 1997 Folk Arts Apprenticeships will be accepted through Jan. 31. The program, aimed at preserving traditional cultural art forms, supports one-to-one training between a master artist and an experienced apprentice with awards of up to $4,000. The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts approved 18 apprenticeship teams for 1996, in such arts as Hawaiian fishnet making, ki ho‘alu, Cantonese opera and Laotian woodcarving.



NOTICES

Focus in Hawaii: Canon USA will accept entries for a statewide amateur photography contest Dec. 1 through Feb. 28. Hawaii residents and active-duty military can submit up to three photographs taken between Jan. 1, 1996, and Feb. 28 which depict an aspect of Hawaii.

Prizes include Canon cameras and binoculars. Winners will be notified in March and have their entries on display at the Canon Gallery in April. No entry fee. Forms available at major camera dealers, Canon, KGMB Channel 9 television and KHNR radio offices. Call 522-5930.

Hui No‘eau Juried Member’s Show: Artists in Maui county may submit two works on Jan. 11 for the gallery show.
