An unearned run in the top of the ninth inning was the difference as West Oahu edged Honolulu, 6-5, in a Hawaii Winter Baseball league game at Rainbow Stadium last night. West Oahu pulls one
out in the ninthThe game in Hilo between the Maui Stingrays and the Hilo Stars was postponed by rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Dec. 11 at Francis Wong Stadium.
The CaneFires had tied the score at 5-5 in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk, and error and a sacrifice fly by Brad Tiller.
In the ninth, Atsunori Inaba reached second on an error by Sharks shortstop Chad Hermansen, took third on Marty Gazarek's single and scored on a single by Matt Bokemeier.
Jeremy Carr homered for Honolulu while Hermansen was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
The annual all-star game is tomorrow at Maui's War Memorial Stadium starting at 6 p.m.
Saturday, before the Maui-West Oahu 2 p.m. game at Hans L'Orange Park, there will be a Playboy Playmates and Friends Softball Tournament. It is a benefit for Easter Seals. General admission is $5 with reserved grandstand seats $10. For more information, call Billie Gabrial-Zito at 536-1015.
