from Saturday at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.



Folk Arts sale starts

Hand-made baskets, ceramics, Native American jewelry and textiles and clothing from Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, China, India and Guatemala are just some of the items for sale at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' 15th annual Folk Art Bazaar that starts Saturday.

The bazaar offers unusual gifts as well as holiday ornaments and crafts that reflect the many cultures represented in the museum's collection.

Admission is free and all proceeds benefit the academy's many programs.

The bazaar runs through Dec. 24. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays (closed Mondays and Dec. 14) and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Parking ($1 with validation) is available at the Art Center at Linekona.

‘Toys for Tots’ at Ala Moana

Hapa and Na Leo Pilimehana are among the performers who will help launch this year's "Toys for Tots" Christmas campaign at Ala Moana Centerstage 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The free concerts will also feature Na Keiki O Manana Elementary School Choir, the Kapuna Hale Chorus and the Marine Corps Band as well as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Road Runner.

The public is asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the center's stage area to give to needy children. Those who make donations will receive coffee from Hawaiian Isles Kona Coffee. Information: 841-8300 or 833-2244.



AIDS Day vigil set

World AIDS Day will be marked by a candlelight vigil starting at 6 p.m. Sunday at Waikiki Gateway Park. The march will proceed down Kalakaua Avenue to St. Augustine Church on Ohua Avenue.

The Rev. Lane Akiona, pastor of St. Augustine by the Sea Roman Catholic Church, will conduct a brief service.

Other World AIDS Day events:

Artlines at Ala Moana Center will donate 15 percent of its gross sales on Sunday to Ho'omana'olana, a statewide agency that provides housing and housing assistance to those with HIV.

Nohelani Cypriano will be joined by Jerry Santos, Hula Halau Kapomakolekapuakane and other performers at 12:30 p.m. Monday on Ala Moana Centerstage.
