Jaquias edged Hawaii's Pancho Sullivan, 24.44 to 24.17 in the first event of the Red Dog Triple Crown of Surfing.
"My personal goal is to win the Triple Crown Championship," Jaquias said. "I've never won one so I want to have that under my belt before I finish my career."
Former Triple Crown champion and world champion Derek Ho, also from Hawaii, was third.
The University of Hawaii's Angelica Ljungquist has been named the Western Athletic Conference women's volleyball Player of the Week for the Pacific Division. LJUNGQUIST HONORED
Ljungquist, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker, led the Wahine to wins at San Jose State and Fresno State last weekend. In six games, she hit .475 with 15 blocks, 14 digs and a service ace.
