Kogyo and Kyo-Ya, said the hotel will be seeking convention business, using its new 6,500-square-foot Maui Ballroom and adjacent smaller meetings, a big improvement over the limited meeting facilities at the old hotel.

Room rates start at $270 a day and go up $3,000 for a suite, according to Keith Vieira, vice president and director of marketing for Sheraton Hawaii.

The rebuilt property features 40 units that the hotel calls Ohana/Family Suites. For $550 a night for the unit, families get two double beds and a pull-down wall bed that Vieira described as a proper bed, not the usual hideaway cot. There is also a microwave oven and other facilities, he said.
