Sharks’ big rally
overtakes Stars

The Honolulu Sharks scored three runs in the sixth inning to get close, then pushed across four more in the seventh to overtake the Hilo Stars, 8-5, in a Hawaii Winter Baseball league game at Rainbow Stadium last night.

Brad Fullmer's bases-loaded double drove in the game-winning run and gave reliever John Kelly his first victory over the season.

Matt Smith had a double, a home run and three runs-batted-in for the Sharks. Geoff Blum added three hits.

West Oahu 5-4, Maui 0-1

At Wailuku, Russ Ortiz and Tony Dougherty combined on a three-hitter as the CaneFires won the first game of a doubleheader at Wailuku's War Memorial Stadium.

Marty Gazarek and James Betzsold each knocked in two runs for West Oahu.

Gazarek again had the productive bat in the second game with two RBIs. West Oahu broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Maui's Anthony Sanders hit a solo homer in the second game.
