Sharks win
on balk in ninth

It was a rough ninth inning for Hilo Stars reliever Daniel Ricabal at Rainbow Stadium last night.

Pinch hitter Donovan Delaney struck out to start the bottom of the ninth for the Honolulu Sharks, but reached first base on a passed ball charged to Hilo catcher Chris Haas.

Following a successful sacrifice bunt by leadoff batter Jeremy Carr, Delaney took third on another passed ball and eventually scored on a balk by Ricabal.

The result was a 2-1 Hawaii Winter Baseball league victory for the Sharks, who opened up a seven-game lead over West Oahu in the Outrigger Division.

Four Honolulu pitchers - Katsuyoshi Murata, Kazuya Shibata, Takuichi Koike and Russell Jacobs - combined on a four-hitter and struck out 13 Stars.

Russell Jacobs picked up the victory after two innings of relief in which he fanned five.

Maui 6, West Oahu 2

At Wailuku, Nate Rolison doubled and homered and had two RBIs to lead the Stingrays at War Memorial Stadium. Ben Petrick and Josh Booty each paired hits for Maui.

Maui's starting pitcher Luther Hackman allowed the CaneFires two hits. Shintaroh Yoshitake and Kenichi Wakatabe each allowed no hits in two innings of work.
