Now, they own the WAC honors.
The University of Hawaii women's volleyball team dominated the All-WAC Pacific Division selections announced yesterday, including having senior blocker Angelica Ljungquist the unanimous choice as Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
The Wahine, 14-0 in their first year as a WAC member, put four players on the first team and two on the second team.
Ljungquist was joined on the first team by senior setter Robyn Ah Mow, senior defensive specialist Nalani Yamashita and junior hitter Therese Crawford.
Named to the second team were senior hitter Joselyn Robins and junior middle blocker Cecelia Goods. The lone Hawaii starter not cited was senior hitter Chastity Nobriga.
Wahine coach Dave Shoji earned Coach of the Year honors. It was the fourth time that Shoji had been named the top coach in the conference; the other selections came in the Big West in 1987, '88 and 1995.
Ljungquist, the Player of the Year in the Big West last season, becomes the fourth Wahine to take the prestigious honor. Big West selections were Suzanne Eagye (1987), Teee Williams (1988, '89), and Karrie Trieschman (1990).
Ljungquist currently leads the WAC in three categories: hitting percentage, blocking and aces. She is also fourth in kills per game and is tied for 26th in digs.
Ah Mow leads the WAC in assists, setting the Wahine to a league-leading .326 hitting percentage.
Other first-team selections were Rainie Rogers and Judy Rexroth of Colorado State, and San Diego State's Martina Vitkova. Other second-team picks were San Diego State's Andrea Clark and Juliana Cezar; Analisa Saylor and Kristen Vance of Colorado State; and Wyoming's Kristina Dzelme.
Freshman of the Year went to Colorado State Catie Vagneur.
Hawaii closes out the regular season at San Jose State Friday and Fresno State Saturday.
