Governor wooing
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center

Gov. Ben Cayetano is in Houston today, trying to close a deal that will have the highly respected University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center establish a presence in Hawaii.

If the center does come, it would fulfill Cayetano's goal of having an internationally known medical institution here that would attract wealthy patients from Pacific Rim nations and establish the isles as a center for "health tourism."

Cayetano, who left yesterday afternoon, said he is "very optimistic" that the cancer center would branch out to Hawaii.
