Vicky’s $1 million
lingerie uplifting

THERE are still five weeks until Christmas, but Sam Sanford is already checking out stocking stuffers for wife Sheila. He found Victoria's Secret a grand spot, particularly if you're Bill Gates or even Ross Perot. He admired fondly their "Miracle Bra," probably so-named because it'll be a miracle if they ever sell it. The bra is covered with 100 carats of diamonds and carries a price tag of $1 million. Want something less flashy? Vicky also has an offer to put you and a loved one on the Concorde to Paris where you'll be whisked by chopper to the lavender fields of Provence. There, a one-of-a-kind perfume personally suited for your lady love (or yourself, if you're Mrs. Gates) will be concocted and presented in a Baccarat bottle. All for a mere $75,000. Sanford's thoughts were in the high income bracket because he'd just received a call from Sheila and her niece, toasting Sam on his birthday from the Ritz Bar (one of his old haunts) in Paris. Each martini cost $22. The waiter told them it was pricey "to keep the riff raff out." She would have sent a postcard, said Sheila, but thought $4.50 was a bit much for a "Wish you were here." ...

SPEAKING of pricey, I checked the cost of a bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac the other day and was staggered to see it now sells for $952.50 per bottle! ... They're uncorking champagne and damn the price at Pacific Focus, where honcho Dennis Burns is celebrating the fact that his crew won 13 of 28 awards handed out by the local Association of Independent Commercial Producers. Among his spots were commercials for Aloha Care's Pahoa Daggers football team, HMSA's "What If?" spot and those for Aloha United Way ... Savvy marketer Catherine Ferrera of

Voice-Stream Wireless Hawaii prepared for her maternity by having a text message programmed into her VoiceStream phone, to be sent to her husband Michael's wireless phone at the touch of a button. She felt it was needed since hubby is an on-the-go buyer for Liberty House. The message: "It's time." All went well and the two are now parents of a daughter, McKenna, truly a high-tech baby ...

Heart and sold

ADMAN Marty Schiller has been helping wife Janet, chair of the 1997 Heart Ball, sell tables to the event. So he called Richard Hicks of Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright. When Schiller returned Hicks' call-back, it was to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Queen's. Hicks had gone in a few days earlier following chest pains and was taken to intensive care after passing out in his doctor's office. Once stabilized, Hicks had begun returning phone calls. Schiller, always one to seize an opportunity, pitched him on buying a table to the Heart Ball from while he was still in the cardiac care unit! Told that his table would be the 100th purchased, Hicks agreed to buy one, even joking that after the $30,000 or so the stay at Queen's would cost, the price of a table at the ball seemed like no big deal. Besides, the purchase was now near and dear to his heart! ...

IF you thought you caught a glimpse of Robert Redford in the islands recently, you may be right. He just wrapped up a quiet stay ... Suzanne Jones of the city's recycling office oversaw construction of a sculpture garden for today's Partnership for the Environment Awards Luncheon at the Coral Ballroom. It consists of archways, picket fences and even a bridge - all made of recycled materials ...

Pound for pound

SINCE she'd flown to Ireland to see the Olde Sod and take in the Notre Dame-Navy football game in Dublin, Ultimate You owner Kelsey Sears made a side visit to London. While there she visited with old friend Shirley Crowe, wife of William Crowe, ambassador to the Court of St. James. At Mrs. Crowe's request, Sears hand-carried the latest info on proposed changes to the Hawaii quarantine law. Rabies-free England has even stronger quarantine requirements than Hawaii, and Mrs. Crowe has joined British pet owners petitioning for a more reasonable quarantine there ...
