Marion Lee Loy was active ineducation

Marion F.K.M. Lee Loy, 84, of Honolulu, a Kamehameha Schools graduate and retired teacher long active in educational organizations, died Saturday in Queen’s Hospital.

She spent the last 14 years of her teaching career at Farrington High School, where she taught English and later world history and the Hawaiian language. She retired from Farrington in 1974.

Earlier, she taught at other Oahu schools and on Maui and the Big Island. She graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1933, earning a fifth-year UH teaching certificate in 1934.

Her father, Daniel P. McGregor and mother Louise, were close friends of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole.

“My father had some land over in Kalihi,” Lee Loy said in a 1991 interview. “There’s a little lane, still there today; it’s called McGregor Lane.”

She was president of the Oahu Education Association in 1965-66 and held other offices in that and other organizations.

She is survived by sons Wilmer K. McGregor and Samuel K. Lee Loy; daughters Marylyn A. and Pilialoha E. Lee Loy; sister Gwendolyn McGregor; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Judith M. Chung, 69, of Las Vegas, native of Maui, died Thursday. Chung, a federal finance retiree, is survived by daughters Wanda L. Stewart, Doreen Calabrese and Rae L.A. Chung; sons Randolph, David G. and Gary K.; sisters Grace Makishi, Yurino Kaku and Aiko V. Kawamoto; brothers Genyei, Hisao and Jinri Shinsato; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. San G. Cristobal, 65, of Kaneohe died Friday in Hawaii State Hospital. He is survived by mother Margareta; brothers Alfred and Julio; and sister Agnes Powers. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe.

Sister Veronica de Mattos, 94, of Honolulu, an intermediate school teacher, died Saturday in the Malia O’ Ka Malu Convent. She is survived by sisters Cecilia de Mattos, Clare Swart and Sophia Dubler. Herbert D. “Didi” Denning, also known as Red, 64, of Kailua, founder of the

Brothers of the Leeward Coast and a retired heavy equipment operator, died Wednesday at home. He is survived by wife Anita L.; sons Charles, Earl, Kavin, Deemer and Yale; daughters Harriet Buen, Lydia Kaeka, Lovena Hanada, Concetta Fialkowski and Genevieve Denning; 31 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Edward C. Dolbey, 90, of Honolulu, president and owner of Dolbey Scientific Inc., died last Tuesday in Straub Hospital. He is survived by companion Hank Kormanski. Victoria K. Lindsey, 75, of Puhi, Kauai, a retired Kaua Fruit Packers supervisor, died Sunday in Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
