And, thanks to Pacific knocking Long Beach State from the unbeaten ranks last Saturday, Hawaii (25-1) has retained its top regional rating that determines postseason hosting duties. Long Beach State (26-1), the Wahine's former Big West nemesis, remained No. 2.
The final Western Athletic Conference home matches also mark the last regular-season appearances for the five Wahine seniors: Angelica Ljungquist, Robyn Ah Mow, Joselyn Robins, Chastity Nobriga and Nalani Yamashita. Sunday's pau hana party also includes a homecoming for former Wahine great Deitre Collins, now the UNLV coach.
Air Force has struggled in its first year of Division I competition, and is at the bottom of the WAC's Pacific Division.
"We're kind of at a low point right now," said Air Force assistant coach Scott Nelson. "Saturday (against Fresno State) was very disappointing and we just didn't play well. We lost our co-captain Tara Shamhart with a sprained ankle and (freshman blocker) Brooke Effland was out with a 103 degree fever. Now we have the trip to Hawaii to look forward to."
The Falcons broke a nine-match losing skid for its lone WAC win Halloween Night against UNLV. It was the beginning of a nightmare for the Lady Rebels, who have lost nine of their last 10.
UNLV also lost its only player with Division I experience in sophomore setter Meri-de Boyer. The sister of former Wahine all-American Cheri Boyer broke her ankle during practice Nov. 4.
The Lady Rebels' last meeting with the Wahine lasted barely an hour, with Hawaii feeling right at home in Las Vegas with a 15-2, 15-8, 15-0 win.
