Gourmet treat for
film fans

A Hawai'i International Film Festival gourmet movie experience, "Movies to Dine For," combines cocktails and dinner at the Halekulani Hotel, and the U.S. premiere of "Pilialoha" at IMAX Theater, 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $100 with proceeds benefiting the festival. Call 528-FILM (528-3456) for reservations.

The event co-sponsor Gourmet magazine honors La Mer restaurant as one of its 23 "America's Top Tables" national award recipients during the affair.

The menu features kiawe-smoked salmon with Hawaii relish, pulehu filet mignon of Palani beef with Garden Isles vegetables, and the following appetizer:

Ahi Poke in Steamed New Potato

5 new potatoes, 1-inch size
6 ounces very fresh ahi, cut in 1/4-inch dice
2 tablespoons chopped macadamia nuts
2 tablespoons chopped ogo
2 tablespoons finely diced Maui onion
2 tablespoons thinly sliced green onion
1 shiso leaf (beefsteak-plant or parella leaf), finely sliced
1 teaspoon Hawaiian sea salt
1 fresh Hawaiian chile pepper, finely chopped

Steam or boil potatoes 15 minutes or until cooked through but not soft. Refrigerate 30 minutes or until cold. Cut in half and create a potato "cup" by scooping out some potato.

In a bowl, combine ahi with remaining ingredients; mix. Fill potatoes with this poke mixture and garnish with ogo sprigs.
