Keeping physicians informed

Getting more information to physicians so they can better do their job is the goal of Dr. John T. Berthiaume, the new vice president of professional affairs and chief medical officer at Straub Clinic & Hospital.

"Physicians are very interested in doing the right thing and are data driven," Berthiaume said. "Therefore, they are receptive to data that allows them to analyze and improve their practice patterns."

He was medical director for the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) at Straub for five years. He also was chief of the general internal medicine division at Straub from 1986 to 1995 and also was chief of staff at Pali Momi Medical Center.

Believe it or not, he held all of these jobs at the same time. With his new job at Straub, he has left Pali Momi. He must have used his Superman cape to get from job to job.

With his new job at Straub, Berthiaume also will continue his Aiea practice for 20 percent of his time. He has been a practicing physician for more than 16 years.

He also currently serves as clinical assistant professor at the University of Hawaii.
