Gibson’s three homers
are still not enough
for Maui

Star-Bulletin staff

Three home runs by Derrick Gibson weren't enough to lift the Maui Stingrays to victory in a 6-5 loss to the West Oahu CaneFires yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park.

Gibson hit two-run homers in the first and third innings and a solo blast in the eighth.

The CaneFires trailed, 5-4, entering the ninth but Atsunori Inaba was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Luke Owen-Bragg was walked. Manny Vasquez then tied the game with a double and Kevin Lidle singled home the winning run.

Sharks 8, Stars 1

At Kailua-Kona, a triple by Michael Barrett and doubles by Brad Fullmer and Mark Farris highlighted a five-run fourth inning as Honolulu won easily.

Chad Hermansen also delivered a three-run double in the seventh inning for the Sharks.
