Getting wired at Merrill Lynch

Part of William L. Lampe's new job is making sure the Merrill Lynch financial consultants in Hawaii and Guam get acquainted with the brokerage's new World Wide Web site, started last month.

The consultants will be showing clients how to use the site, located at http://www.merrill-lynch.ml.com, to do some of their own research. "We're trying to provide them (clients) with the wisdom on how to use this information," said Lampe, who is charge of client services here.

Sometime in the next few months, the brokerage plans to offer computerized trading to clients as well, he said.

Lampe has been with Merrill Lynch for 17 years, including several managerial posts. He has also been as a board director of Merrill Lynch Bank and Trust Company of California. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.
