A first for isle hotel execs

Adi Kohler, managing director of the Mauna Kea Resort, is the first Hawaii hotel executive to chair the resort committee of the American Hotel & Motel Association.

"Our main goal is that we communicate with each other and try to run first class resorts," Kohler said.

The next meeting is Nov. 8 at the Plaza Hotel in New York. Kohler will chair the committee's 1997 annual meeting in Grand Teton, Wyoming and has already scheduled the 1998 meeting for the Mauna Kea Resort. The resort committee is composed of executives from 60 resorts.

Kohler has 45 years in the hotel business and 23 years at the Mauna Kea Resort, which includes both the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the new Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. He was general manager of the Mauna Kea Beach it was closed for restoration in 1994. In early 1995 he was named managing director of the resort.
