All-star lineup
at Jammin’ concert

FALSETTO recording artist Dennis Pavao gathers all performers for an "All Hawaii Stands Together" finale at Saturday's blockbuster Outrigger Hotels Jammin' Hawaiians concert. The event starts at 4 p.m. at Waikiki Shell; gates open at 2:30 p.m.

The lineup presents Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, Makaha Sons, Ka'au Crater Boys, and Robi Kahakalau. Also, Ned Ka'apana, BB Shawn, John Cruz, Ehukai, Natural Vibrations, Palolo, and two-thirds of Hui 'Ohana.

Tickets are $15.50, $18.50 and $20.50 at Blaisdell box office and Connection outlets, or charge at 545-4000. Add $2 to the ticket price on concert day.



The Jets fly high Nov. 9 at a Tongan fest.



Tongan fest part of Jet set

The 10-day Tongan cultural festival at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie culminates with a performance by the hit musical group, the Jets. Formerly known as the Wolfgramm Family, the Jets produced five albums with eight Top-10 singles. Tickets are $7 and $10 for the group's 9:30 p.m. show Nov. 9.

The festival gets under way Friday and also features:

Saturday: Tongan dance contest preliminaries 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday and Nov. 5 to 8: Evening concerts 5 to 8 p.m.

Nov. 4 to 8: Performances by Tongan National Center dancers 12:30 to 6 p.m.

Nov. 9: Tongan dance contest finals 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and "Horizons, Where the Sea Meets the Sky" program 8 p.m.

Passes cost $7 for one day, $15.95 for one day plus "Horizons," and $23.95 for the entire festival, including PCC admission. Reserve at 293-3333 or, from the neighbor islands, at 1-800-367-7060.



Piano prodigy in HPR concert

Sean Kennard wasn't even born when Hawaii Public Radio made its maiden voyage on the airwaves. However, the piano prodigy will perform at the station's 15th anniversary concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at HPR's Atherton Performing Arts Studio, 738 Kaheka St. Pupu and birthday cake will be served.

Young Kennard played his way to the 1995 top prize in the Chopin International Competition of the Pacific. He recently performed a solo concert at New York's Vassar College.

Concert tickets are $20 and $25, with proceeds benefiting HPR. Reserve at 955-8821.

Filipino concert marks 70th

The Silangan Singers under the direction of Professor Ruth Imperial Pfeiffer present a choral concert marking the 70th year of Filipinos in Hawaii.

"Filipino Song, A Heritage" features plantation-era melodies as well as songs reflecting Philippine history. The concert is free at 8 p.m. Nov. 15 at the University of Hawaii Orvis Auditorium.

Stars shine for Society alum

Don Ho, Loyal Garner, Ka'au Crater Boys and Glenn Medeiros headline "Star Fest '96 - Stars Helping Stars," featuring more than 40 entertainers from 9 a.m. Nov. 17 at McCoy Pavilion.

The 12-hour program also presents Jan Brenner, Bu La'ia, Roland Cazimero, Cecelio, Nohelani Cypriano, Ilona Irvine and Dick Jensen. Also, Kimo Kahoano, Carole Kai, Pandanus Club, Augie Rey, Rolando Sanchez, Society of Seven, Emme Tomimbang and others.

Tickets are $10 at Tower Records, Tower Video, Easy Music, Harry's Music, House of Music, Records Hawaii, and Tempo Music; or $12.50 at the gate. Proceeds benefit Alfredo Romero, former bass player in the 1970s for the Society of Seven, in his fight against cancer.
