Guitarist Klugh
to play the Shell

Guitar heavyweight Earl Klugh and pianist David Benoit will headline a group of musicians at a concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Waikiki Shell.

The Grammy Award-winning Klugh has more than 20 albums to his credit and is known for his exciting concerts.

Benoit was a crowd-pleaser at the Maui Music Festival last year.

Also performing will be saxophonist Everette Harp, Al Turner on bass and Ronald Otis on drums.

Advance tickets - at $15 for lawn, $18.50 for reserved upper terrace and $25 for reserved pool and lower terrace - are on sale Friday at the Blaisdell box office and Connection outlets or by phone at 545-4000 or 1-800-333-3388.

The musicians also will play at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

Tickets are $25, $20 and $15 and are available starting Friday at the center box office and Connection outlets.

Pianist in cabaret concert

Singer-songwriter-pianist Matt Yee will present a cabaret concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Atherton Performing Arts Studio, sponsored by Hawaii Public Radio.

Yee has performed his solo show on the East and West Coasts. Although he performs often with his band, this concert will be his first solo show here.

He will present songs he wrote while he was at Punahou School in the 1970s as well as more familiar material by the Carpenters and Carole King.

Kumu hula Brad Lum will augment the show with dance and chant.

Mask sale benefits theater

Windward Community College Players' Halloween Mask Sale takes place Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the WCC Little Theatre.

The one-of-a-kind masks were made by WCC students and local artists. Prices range from $2 to $75. Proceeds from the sale will go to purchasing an air-conditioner for the theater.

Brassy show in Kailua

The Honolulu Brass brings Windward music fans an evening of opera favorites at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Christ Church, Kailua.

"A Night at the Opera on the Windward Side" will feature music from "Aida," "Pirates of Penzance" as well as works by Rossini, Von Suppe and Monteverde.

Tickets are $15, $13 for seniors and $10 for students.

Fest to feature Hawaii canoes

Festival of Canoes, a benefit for the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association, will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 2 and 3 at Magic Island.

Hawaii's voyaging canoes - the Hokule'a, Hawaii Loa and Makali'i -will be on display. There also will be entertainment by Na Leo Pilimehana and other performers, canoe races, paddling lessons, food booths and craft fair sales.

'Superstitions' at museum

Bishop Museum brings back "Superstitions," a planetarium show that explains how common superstitious beliefs were inspired by the night sky.

The program, in time for Halloween, will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday as part of a double feature with "Aloha Kilolani: 35 Years of Hawaiian Skies." Admission is $3.50 and reservations are required. Call 847-8201.

The program also will be presented free at 6, 6:30 and 7 p.m on Oct. 31, Halloween, as part of the museum's Halloween Treat Street event.
