A hands-on approach to safety

Karl Freienmuth has joined Aloha Airlines as vice president of maintenance and engineering.

"I'm known as a hands-on kind of guy and I will be looking around the operations here. Our main job is to see that safety is never compromised," Freienmuth said.

The airline operates a fleet of 16 Boeing 737s for more than 187 daily flights.

Freienmuth came to Aloha Airlines from Sun Country Airlines, a charter airline in Minneapolis-based where he was chief administrative officer.

He has 25 years in the aviation industry, working for Aerotest Inc., Discovery Airways, Pacific Southwest Airways, Rohr Industries, and Lockheed Aircraft Service Co. Freienmuth served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight engineer instructor.

He earned a bachelor's degree in professional aeronautics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.
