He won the Star-Bulletin's Dow Jones contest a few years ago. So, it was with incredulity that he received the phone call at work yesterday that he'd won the Football Fever Contest.
"I still can't believe it," said Shishido, a 42-year-old budget analyst for the state judiciary.
"My friend said, 'Hey, that's not fair.' "
But Shishido said he'd been entering Football Fever since the contest began and was actually frustrated. "I figured I'd never win," he said.
But his perseverance paid off.
Shishido got nine of a possible 10 predictions correct and qualified as a finalist in this week's random drawing to pick the Fever winner. In order to be in the drawing, contestants had to equal or exceed the mark of the top celebrity panelist - Cindy Luis' 9-1 mark was best.
Shishido said he has a good-luck charm in daughter Kelli, 10, a student at Hokulani Elementary.
No question that Shishido can use the $500 he won. His older daughter, Reni, is a recent Stanford graduate.
But first on the list is Shishido's wife, Jennifer, an industrial hygienist, who he'll treat to a seafood dinner with part of the winnings.
"She likes seafood, dad," Kelli prodded.
