Fishing at Nuuanu Reservoir: Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday for weekend fishing dates at the reservoir beginning Nov. 9. Anglers who have a valid Freshwater Game Fishing License may pick up application cards at the One-Stop Shop of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, 1151 Punchbowl St., Room 131. Kaena Point hike: Miles and Maureen Brubacher of the Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club lead a four-mile shoreline stroll, 9 a.m. Saturday. Costs $2. Call 261-7814.

Makapuu hike: Robert Lockridge leads a sunny coastal hike, Saturday. Four miles, four hours. Costs $7. Call the Hawai‘i Nature Center at 955-0100.

Tai chi classes: Wahiawa General Hospital is taking registration for classes with Rev. Christopher K. Eng of Waipahu United Church of Christ, Saturday mornings in Wahiawa, Oct. 19 through Dec. 21, and with Herbert Pong, Saturday mornings in Haleiwa beginning Oct. 26. Eng’s class costs $20 to $30; Pong’s class is free. Call 621-4380 for Wahiawa classes, 638-7129 for Haleiwa classes.

Box car competition: Drivers test their skills, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, north end of Paiwa Road, Waikele. Box cars must conform to standards of American Box Car Racing International. Call 947-3393.

Mayor’s Sunday on Wheels: Family bike ride starts 9 a.m. Sunday at Kailua District Park. Music, games and food through noon. Call 527-5666.

Hawaiian Cribbage Extravaganza: Enter by Sunday to participate in cribbage tournaments Oct. 25 through 28 at the Ilikai hotel. Admission is free for spectators. Games begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 and 9 a.m. other days. Awards ceremony and dinner will be 6 p.m. Oct. 28; banquet $25. For application form, call Tsarkie at 734-4800.

Honolulu Zoo: The zoo opens at 8 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. General admission $6; $2 with Yum Yum Tree senior card. First Wednesdays feature a botanical tour at 8:45 a.m. for $2 more. Third Wednesdays, tai chi practice begins 8 a.m. Call 971-7174.

Nature Conservancy hikes: Two guided hikes a month to Honouliuli Preserve, home to more than 45 rare native plants and animals. Donation. Call 537-4508.
