Garcia leads advance
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Posting one of the best scores of the day, 23.15, Hawaii's Sunny Garcia advanced to round three of the Rio Surf Pro, the next-to-last event on the 1996 Coca-Cola/ASP World championship Tour.
Also moving to round three with victories yesterday were Hawaii's Ross Williams and Kalani Robb.
Kaipo Jaquias, Shane Dorian, Conan Hayes and Derek Ho will surf in round two today.
SEA WARRIORS FALL IN OT
Kate Kammerer scored an unassisted goal from 15 feet out in the 120th minute of play as Rockhurst College (Mo.) edged Hawaii Pacific, 1-0, in a college women's soccer match at HPU's Windward Campus yesterday.
SILVERSWORDS LOSE
At Claremont, Calif., Claremont McKenna College, ranked 13th in the nation, took a 5-1 halftime lead and held on to defeat Chaminade University, 8-6, in a Western Water Polo Conference match yesterday.
HPU BASEBALL MEETING
Coach Allan Sato will hold a meeting tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Hawaii Pacific University athletic office for any full-time HPU students interested in playing baseball for the Sea Warriors this year.
Prospects are asked to bring a No. 2 pencil.
ALOHA STADIUM BUSES
TheBus Aloha Stadium Football Express will run for Saturday's Western Athletic Conference game at 7:05 p.m. between Nevada-Las Vegas and the University of Hawaii.
The express buses will service the Windward area, Hawaii Kai, Kahala Mall, Kaimuki, Waikiki, the University of Hawaii and Ala Moana Center.
The one-way fare is $2 (no change given). Transfers will not be issued or accepted and passes will not be honored.
