Cape Town, South Africa - Commonwealth Press Union conference to be attended by President Nelson Mandela and others.

Rancho Mirage, Calif. - American Medical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science hold conference on medical errors.

Albuquerque, N.M. - President Clinton arrives to begin preparations for Oct. 16 debate with Bob Dole in San Diego.

Cape Town, South Africa - Trial begins for three men accused of attacking St. James Church in December 1993, killing 11 people.

Cairo, Egypt - Israeli President Ezer Weizman visits Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to discuss stalled Mideast peace process.

New Delhi, India - Court hearing scheduled in forgery case against former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao.

Beverly Hills, Calif. - Environmental Media Awards.

New York - Columbus Day Parade.

Wichita, Kan. - Tara Dawn Holland returns to Kansas for her first news conference since being named Miss America.



TUESDAY, Oct. 15:

Pietermaritzburg, South Africa - Former police officer convicted of political killings applies for amnesty. Through Oct. 16.

Kimberley, South Africa - South African Agricultural Union holds its annual congress. Through Oct. 17.

Washington - Supreme Court hears arguments.

Simi Valley, Calif. - Conference exploring presidential debates of past, present and future at Reagan Library.

Santa Monica, Calif. - Second phase of jury pool questioning begins in the O.J. Simpson wrongful death case.

Christiansburg, Va. - Capital murder trial of Ben Lilly, accused of kidnapping Virginia Tech student at convenience store, stealing his car, killing him and robbing two other stores.

Phoenix - Make-A-Wish foundation's national board of directors meets to address controversy over hunting wishes of sick children.



WEDNESDAY, Oct. 16:

Johannesburg, South Africa - Military veterans hold news conference to call for ban on land mines.

Otopeni, Romania - Military exercise Cooperative Key '96 starts at this airbase near Bucharest. Troops from United States, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Czech Republic, Moldova, Slovakia and Romania to attend air exercises under Partnership for Peace Program. Through Oct. 18.

Singapore - Opening of four-month exhibition "Masterpieces from the Guggenheim Museum."

Washington - Supreme Court hears arguments.

San Diego - President Clinton, Bob Dole participate in last of two debates.

New York - Minister Louis Farrakhan gives keynote address at "World's Day of Atonement" to observe first anniversary of the Million Man March across from United Nations building. Coalition for Jewish Concerns to lead protest nearby against observance.

New York - Sen. Alfonse D'Amato (R-N.Y), chairman of Senate Banking Committee, holds hearing into Holocaust victims' assets held in Swiss banks.

Tulsa, Okla. - International Conference on Energy and the Environment. Through Oct. 19.

Reno, Nev. - Scheduled federal court sentencing of man who pleaded guilty in IRS bombing attempt.

Huntsville, Texas - Former Polish president Lech Walesa receives Sam Houston Humanitarian Award at Sam Houston State University.



THURSDAY, Oct. 17:

Paris - French civil service employees stage one-day strike against government's plans to cut thousands of jobs. It is first major walkout of fall and test of rank-and-file support for wider labor action.

Cape Town, South Africa - Truth and Reconciliation Commission meets to discuss using former anti-apartheid arms smuggler as investigator.

New York - Democratic Vice President Albert Gore and Republican challenger Jack Kemp speak at annual Al Smith dinner sponsored by Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York.

Beloit, Wis. - Preliminary hearing for 63-year-old Native American leader John W. Sharlow who is accused of inappropriately touching four women and a girl during a pipe/healing ceremony.

Chesapeake, Va. - Preliminary hearing for 19-year-old man accused of breaking into neighbor's house during slumber party, fatally stabbing one girl and wounding three other teens.

Breckenridge, Colo. - Americans who have attended school overseas will hold Overseas Brats Inc. annual convention.

Denver - Denver International Film Festival opens.



FRIDAY, Oct. 18:

Paris - French telephone numbers change from eight to 10 digits to add millions of lines in exploding telecommunications industry.

Tulsa, Okla. - Ceremony to dismiss charge of rioting against the late J.B. Stradford, one of the blacks accused of race riots in Tulsa 75 years ago.

Fond du Lac, Wis. - Court hearing for four men who along with two juveniles are accused in the skinhead attack on a 16-year-old Hispanic boy and a 10-year-old black boy.

Sacramento, Calif. - Colin Powell, Shimon Peres, Barbara Bush, Jeane Kirkpatrick among expected guests at public policy forum.

Lexington, Va. - Virginia Military Institute holds an open house for women interested in attending. Through Oct. 19.



SATURDAY, Oct. 19:
